liv: ribbon diagram of a p53 monomer (p53)

I've never left a job before. I spent my 20s as a contract researcher, and when my project came to an end, I just... didn't work in that lab any more. So I didn't know how to give notice, how to do the tax paperwork, it was all completely new to me. Also, the people I've been working closely with for the past eight years were all actually sad to see me go and wanted to mark the rite of passage. That was new to me too, in a mostly touching but slightly bittersweet way.

last days )

I started my new job the following Monday. I need to work out how much I should talk about that in detail here; for one thing it's looking to involve somewhat more blogging and social media presence as my professional persona than the old job did. Also I am still adjusting to living in Cambridge full time, which is probably another post, and I'm up to my eyes preparing for the High Holy Days beginning on Wednesday, so I am going to stick with posting about leaving rather than about arriving for now.

I don't know where the year went, but suddenly we're here, gearing up for all the Christmas exchanges.

Yuletide just closed nominations over at [community profile] yuletide_admin. (I'll be requesting my perennials again - my once-a-year chance! There's nothing else I want as much, or at least not with as little a chance of getting written elsewhere.)

[community profile] holmestice - which this week announced dates for this year's winter round - is my chance for two other tiny fandoms, plus of course the ones that don't qualify for Yuletide. (I'm planning to add A Study in Emerald and Exit Sherlock Holmes to my ACD and Sherlock requests this time. Exit Sherlock Holmes is a new discovery for me; I stumbled across it earlier this year. Anyone else read it?)

And last but hopefully not least, [community profile] public_call just announced this year's schedule and rules. My nominations this year promise to be Missy-heavy, in addition to the usual things. :D

Oh, and even [community profile] holly_poly, which has a January deadline, has already posted a tentative schedule! And here, too, there will definitely be more Missy nominations for me in addition to my Twelve/Missy/Jack OT3.

(Btw, speaking of Missy, over at [community profile] missy_fest we've revealed the first of the Missy This Fic remixes, and the rest will be revealed every other day. It's a tiny fest with only four participants total! But it was totally worth it, and there's some amazing Missy fic to read. ♥)

They close tomorrow so hurry and get your nominations in!

Mine are:

Witcher: Geralt, Emhyr, Ciri, Dandelion (duh)

Dragonriders of Pern: Menolly, Robinton (I totally want Menolly/Robinton NOT SORRY)

Dune (the book): Paul, Jessica, Stilgar, Feyd -- I don't know exactly what I want here, I think I want some outsider POV on Paul maybe?

My runners-up were:

Rome: Pullo, Vorenus, maybe Octavian -- man, I would love a story that undid what the show did to Octavian in S2 so much

Gladiator: Maximus, Commodus

Brimstone: Ezekiel, The Devil

Dungeons and Dragons Cartoon: Eric, Hank, Sheila, Venger

Battle of the Planets: Mark, Jason

and my perennial hope-springs-eternal Dracula: the Series: Lucard (hope doesn't really spring very far lol)

I am totally not mentioning these here in hopes that someone has a spare nom they wouldn't mind using on one of these. ;)
